Towing report
Truck weight 9000#
The trailer weight 2400#
Cat approx. 8500#
Case approx 8000#
Really enjoyed the towing. Plenty of power. It averaged 7.60 mpg, constant speed of 68 even on the climbs. Probably could have got a little better MPG if set the speed at 57. The transmission is pretty sweet. No complaints.

I'm 3 days away from getting my 24' bumper pull trailer. (I'm so excited.) I have my own tree business and needed a way to haul my skid steer and stump grinder at the same time.
The stump grinder is 4,300 lbs and the skid is about 3,500 lbs and the trailer is about 4,000 lbs. I've had this much behind my Excursion many time with no problem at all. (Actually, I've had much more than that a few times.)
I tow 7,000 lbs almost everyday and get 9.0 mpg mixed city/hwy.
I GUARANTEE you would have gotten better mileage at 57 mph. These things push a lot of air, and pressure drag is a big deal. It takes 8X more power/fuel to go 2X faster.
We borrowed a buddy's massive flatbed trailer (unknow weight, used to tow backhoe/frontloader tractor) and hauled a BMW 525 (dense car) for a few hundred miles. I'd estimate we were within a couple thousand pounds of you. We were getting consistently 10-11 mpg at 59 mph. The worst grade was the Grapevine coming out of LA. Passed a lot of trucks and never had to slow down.
