Child safety locks

I have one of my rear door child safety locks that goes into the "child" mode all by itself when I use the electric locks to lock/unlock the doors. The manual safety switch feels very tight/hard to move, but every time my kids yell "the child lock is on again"

Anyone had any experience with this problem?

Thanks,

Bob

We have the same problem with our '97 Exp, XLT. It's really irritating. Anyone else out there resolve this?

My mom's 97 does this too. The cause behind the problem i found to be the opening of the door from the inside. When the handel is pull it causes the latch to rotate. Some how the spring that holds it down goes bad. when it does the swich will climb up and lock itself. I am still in the process of fixing this with out removing the door panel. I have tried tape and super glue. The super glue does not allow the latch to turn so it will breat the super glue and the problem will still occur.

Same problem here. Operating the inside door handle works the switch into the safety mode for some reason. Wedge something in thr switch(I used a piece of coaxal cable about 5/8" long) you should have no more problem.

Same child lock problem. Never did figure out what was causing it. The fix was easy. Remove the plastic cover and use a small tie wrap to secure the lock. I agree they have their place. However, my kids are grown and I'm tired of the aggravation.
