What's up people?
I have a 1979 F-250 w/460, C-6 tranny with an NP205. I have a Dana 60 front axle (1986) and an older sterling rear... The PO said everything is good to go... I drove it and the front seemed kinda loose but the motor/tranny/t-case all shifted and functioned nicely. The only thing that sucks is the gear ratios, 3.54 front and 3.55 rear...... I think??? Anyway, I decided to rebuild the front axle with new seals/bearings/gasket/rotors and kingpins. Now, here is where I may have messed up. When I rebuilt it I never installed the splash shields for the rotors. The old ones were so rusted that I couldn't re-use them and I couldn't find anything locally. Will this have any major affect on handling/performance or parts wearing out faster?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cool...... I appreciate the quick reply. I'd hate to yank the outers off again. But, if I have to I will just for ease of mind and good practice.
I'll be running the H1 12 bolt beadlocks mounted on 37" goodyears.
I noticed that the old shields were roughly .040" thick and seeing that these axles are floating I was curious if this would play any games with abnormal wear etc...... If anything I guess I could put a washer roughly the thickness of the shield behind the snap ring...... Any thoughts?
Once again thanks guys! Towing... not likely, as she's going to be a trailer queen... she's going to be a mildly built trail rig... she'll see some mud/trails/rocks/plow some snow etc...
