Thanks a lot for the reply. The guy i bought it off of said it was cast iron so Ill assume until I can see for myself that its the t-18. which one, the np435 or the t-18, is the better tranny? Thanks
I have a t18 in my truck and it not failed me yet. I put my truck through daily abuse that some trucks don't see in a lifetime if that means anything to you. As far as the np435, I have never used one so I have no clue.
My dad has the T-18 in his '84 Bronco. The problems he has had with it were due to a head on crash with a Sunbird back in '85 (I was riding with him, drove over that poor little car ). The synchro's for 2nd went out at 25,000 miles (about a year after the wreck). The dealership said it was most likely caused by the tow in four wheel drive to the body shop to fix it (duh) . The dealer repaired it and he has had very little problems since, mostly whining when cold.
I have a NP435 in my '82 and have never had a problem with it. The transfer case and rear end are another story. I have changed out the lubricant about every 30,000 miles or when I drive through a lot of deep water, and lately there has been a lot of deep water:-staun.
