difficulty level COPs
and how necessary is it to replace them all, with 90k miles?
reason i want to do it is because when i crank it up it starts but almost fumbles into life at times runs rough for a few seconds, then smooths out and is fine. it's been doing this for about a year and hasn't gotten any worse or better. there is no CEL, and when i've had the codes checked, (by someone else) they say there's no codes at all. this has been a mystery problem for a year now and i'm thinking its a COP gone halfway bad or something.... anyone else want to chime in? please!
it's been a few miles since i changed them in my F250, but i think it's a 7mm to take the COP's loose, then you can take the COP off the plug. try to pull on the boot more than the plastic.
once you take your COP off, you'll need at least a plug socket, ratchet (1/4 & 3/8 just in case), an adapter from 1/4 to 3/8 (once again just in case), about a 3" extension and a swivel on hand as well. then find you either a in/lb or ft/lb torque wrench. i torqued my plugs to 14ft/lbs............
there was a debate on what Ft/lb to torque them too a while back in the V10 forum, some said 11ft/lbs, some said 30 ft/lbs.......... i don't have the link, but there was a link posted saying 14ft/lbs........... that's what i torqued them too. and put just a DAB of anti sieze on the plug threads.
when cleaning the MAF take you some brake cleaner/carb cleaner, take the MAF out of the truck. spray the cleaner on the small wires let it set for a few seconds, and repeat 2-3 times, then if you feel brave enough and don't use any preasure....... take a Q-tim and GENTLY, and i mean GENTLY run it over the wires. then reinstall.

Our new Ford COP’s, the Sultans of Spark(S.O.S.), have
been designed with both durability and performance in mind.
Please see them at:

Quality was the main feature we stressed when we went to the
drawing board on these coils.
By the way, for those of you who only need to replace a defective coil,
our SOS Coils are available separately.
