Hi all,
I am in the market for new tires to replace my worn 265 75 16 ATs (Hercules Terratrac). I found a really good deal on a set of Goodyear Wrangler LT 285/75/r16, and they're load range e (luckily). My question is, will this size difference be OK? Can I run them? Will it cost me any significant MPG?
Thanks
Do you have a leveling kit? If not, they MAY rub just a hair on sharp turns on the drivers side wheel well cover. My wife has those size tires on her 01 with no leveling kit. I don't think you'll see any significant MPG loss.
My 2001 F250 4x4 is completely stock and has had 285/75/R16's on it forever with no clearance problems. Stock steel wheels. 2,000 RPM is just under 70MPH auto trans. in OD and 3.73 rear axle ratio. Don't exceed 2,000 RPM for best fuel economy.
Oh, also, does anyone have experience with the Goodyear Wrangler Prograde tires? Are they ATs? How do they hold up? How are they offroad or in ice and snow?
I have 285/75-16 Goodyear Wrangler MT/R's on mine. Same as yours with off road pkg. and no leveling kit. No rubbing at all.
BTW, I don't like these tires. They came on my rig new when I bought it. About the only great experience I've had with them is when it snowed heavily last winter. Great in fresh snow, hardpack, and slush.
I do have a leveling kit on mine, but ran 285's for 2yrs+ with no problems. With a leveling kit, some are running 315/75R16s.
And if your truck is almost levelwith no kit on the front, I'd be wondering if your rear spring packs are shot. There should be (from the factory) about a 2" difference which will give the truck a noticeable 'nose-down' stance.
