This just started about a week ago. I have a BD replacement starter and haven't had any problems since installing it a few months ago, until a week or so ago. What happens is this:
Cold engine, starts just fine.
2 or 3 "stops" will be fine too.
Maybe by the 4th stop (like running errands) I'll come out and go to start, and the starter spins but it's not engaging the flywheel. I'll have to put her in Neutral, drift a foot or so, jam in to Park, and then it will catch & crank over.
I've checked the starter and the bolts are tight. I had ZERO problems right after install of the new starter, and for the next few months. Any thoughts?
sounds to me like when the starter warms and the metal expands the starter gets jammed and can't push out like he said up there.
Maybe a bend starter shaft?
Would be interesting to know the cause.
