I have a 1981 f600 with the 370 and its not running that great, i have an old box truck with an international dt466 diesel i would love to have it in my dump truck, has anyone seen a swap like this? and how would i go about getting it done
Make a list and check it twice. Lots to fool with in a conversion like this. It's the little things. Cooling, exhaust, mounts, fuel system, electrics, gauges. Will it clear the steering box, do the manifolds dump out into the frame rails, what trans will work, etc.
The idea is sound, but work it out system by system, and measure twice etc.
You might find fixing the 370 or getting a 429 more in line with not just the money part of this, but the time investment.
Good luck, and perhaps we will get a post from someone who has done a similar swap.
The IH engine will be a lot longer than your 370. Depending on how high the engine sits in your Ford, the "doghouse" you will have to build inside the cab may interfere with the dash. This will also move the transmission back several inches. You will have to think about clutch linkage unless you are running an automatic. There will definitely be a lot of custom fabrication on a swap like this.
