Bad Turn Signal Switch???

How do I tell if my turn signal switch is bad?
My left brake light only works if the right turn signal
is on. Left taillight and turn signal both work fine. Right
side all works as it should.
Replaced bulb and socket, no brake light. I searched
a couple threads and they seemed to point to the switch.
If it is the switch, what puller do I need to remove the steering wheel?

I always had problems with the turn signal switch on my '76.
A simple crow foot puller is all you need to pull the steering wheel.

Thanks, I'll likely need it. Btw, anyone know of a
nice aftermarket steering wheel that works? If I'm
going to pull the old cracked one, I may as well
replace it. Don't much care for the giant skinny stock ones.

the wiring looks to be all original. I've only had this truck
for about a month, but I'm the second owner and the truck
seems to be fairly unmolested.

pull some string or wire up through the column when you take the old switch out. that way you can just tie it around the new wiring and it will be alot easier to feed through.
