Does anyone have any idea if running red dyed diesel (normally reserved for heavy equipment/off highway use) in the 6.0L has any ill-effects on the injector longevity and/or performance?
It is the same fuel dyed red. It is not taxed however and if you are caught running it in your truck you will face HEAVY fines. We're talking over 12,000 dollars first offense.
They've got little swabs they can stick up your exhaust and they will react with the burnt dye so they'll know if you were running offroad (red) diesel.
So no it won't hurt your truck, but if you get caught you'll have a BAD day.
I understand....... and no I am not running it in my truck before anyone begins with a drawn out lecture.
I am curious to know if the dye messes with the injectors. A particular fleet I know of is running this fuel and they are having injector issues with their 6.0L.....just wondering if it might be related.
Whatever the dye is that they use it sticks to EVERYTHING. It literally dyes your fuel lines/tank forever. I know nothing about the stuff, but to me it seems like it could be possible.
ive put 316000 km on my 03 6.0l and never had a problem all i run is dyed fuel i have farm plates on my truck so i can use it i have changed 3 injectors in it and cracked and warped the heads but i doubt fuel had anything to do with the heads that was pulling hard without guages and a bullydog chip shift on the fly not good lol at least the tranny was on warranty
I operate a public school district fleet, we are tax exempt so dyed fuel is all we run in our diesels. See signature line below for information on our 6.0
