fuel filter

Hey. I have a 1994 F-250 with the 300. I am looking to replace the fuel filter. I went out and bought one the other day, and figured it would be an easy job. Easy jobs always turn onti puzzlers. The new fuel filter I bought doesn't screw onto the lines or anything, it just has a ridge on the inlet/outlet, which I figured the lines just snap over. I removed the clips off of the old filter, and pulled on the lines to remove them. They were really on there! Enough to the point where I didn't pull anymore because I was afraid of breaking something. The lines have metal fittings on them, which go over the fuel filter. They don't seem to have any threads or anything. How do I remove them? Was I just not pulling hard enough?

If you removed the 'clips', then ya should be able to pull on the line as you rotate the filter a bit. Other filters have to have a special tool, much like for A/C line removal. Let us know how it goes.

you need a tool.

do not just yank on it.

the outside clips are the backups.

get the tool, insert it with the big end towards the filter, push it into the metal cap on the fuel line. might not want to work if been a while since filter changed, keep pushing, pulling, it will come off. be prepared for a gas bath, no way around it, gas will run down your arm for sure. remove other side, push lines back on. done. compare old to new, 87 to 90 looks the same, will install, but you will not get it back off without isues, because where line goes on, is longer on the newer trucks

Let me correct myself. I removed the clips from the outside of the lines. They snapped over the metal caps that are connected to the inlet/outlet of the fuel line. Am I correct that there are retainers inside the caps that I insert a tool into and unspring inner clips? Sorry to say this, but that is a really asinine way to do that. Ford engineers, minus one in my book. I hate buying a tool that is only useful to remove a fuel filter on Fords. Every filter I have ever changed the line screws onto the fitting. Somebody please tell me there is reasoning behind this.

Hey, I did mine for the first time last Saturday. I had the metal scissor like tool and the little plastic release pogs too. Buy the plastic ones, there's not much room to get the metal one under there. Mine came off easy but one of the inner retaining springs in the fuel line broke leaving me walking until Monday morning when I bought a new spring at Carquest. Good luck,

Brad
