confused - clear computer codes?

Hi All,

I did an 7.3 turbo engine swap 5K ago in my '94 F350. Did have a bad tach sensor (to the right of the oil fill cap) in the swap to engine so I put in my old one and things were fine although I felt the shifting has changed some. Seems to occassionaly shift at higher rpm than I remember. As I remember I thought it almost always shifted at 2K and below. Now it seems to go to 2.5K more often than I remember.

Anyway, I took it a tranny shop where they would do a free eval. They told me that they could not clear the existing engine codes from the computer so they could not see which codes were new and which were old. They also felt that it might be a graund connection tbl and if I could clear that up they would test again.

So the question is: where do I start? I did'nt think the '94 IDI diesel had a computer. Both of the batteries are hooked to the engine block and there is at least one straps from the engine to the fire wall that I know of. Vacumm lines look good on the inner fender.

Any thoughts on this from you all. Got a NC to OH tow on the calendar next week and I'm trying to avoid an on road failure.

Thanks

If you have a overdrive tranny, you have a computer just for that. Take it to another shop.

Take it somewhere else, obviously that shop is too stupid to know that you don't have engine codes, the computer is just for the tranny.

As Franklin2 says IF you have an O/D transmission then you do have a computer. If you want to clear the codes just unhook the batteries for about 10min and then reconnect.

Thanks guys. I didn't think it had an engine computer but wasn't positive. I do have over drive (button at end of shifter arm to disable). I will disconnect the batteries and see if here is an improvement. Will post results.
