I have about a 4' x 4' "litter box" for my dog in the backyard. When I created the box, I used a sod cutter to cut the grass out, then I put down a brick border, and backfilled it with gravel. The grass started creeping in some last summer, but I had it under control. This summer, it has completely over run the box. What can I use to kill the grass in that area, but not outside the box? Thanks for the help!
Did you lay a membrane on top of the soil before you backfilled with gravel?
All those chemicals can't be very good for your dog. And he'll be tracking it into the house as well.
Round-up for a couple of days then cut a sheet of dark poly or a blue tarp and cover it up for a week. After a week uncover, collect the worms and go fishing.
Cause everyone's yard gets randomly inspected for weed killer strength.(Sarcasm)
Actually it does. It is done here by the nc department of agriculture and consumer services pesticide division. Every state has their own controlling body.
Our local farm supply sells roundup in the bulk (gallon) if you bring your own container. Much cheaper then at other stores and the stuff that is sold to the farmers is a stronger concentration.

You can get away with about anything here really. I could kill my grass with straight bleach if i wanted to. No one would be coming to test it.

I knew of a guy that got caught doing that very same thing and they started him out at 12k in fines. That is shocking that they let you bring your own container.
It has to be the roundup container that you emptied out to get filled or a container that you have labeled as roundup. to get filled. These are typically 2 1/2 gallon plastic jugs.
I'd use weed blocker sheets that are used in flower beds to keep unwanted growth. It'sll keep grass and weeds from growing and let umm moisture go through. just dig out all the gravel and lay a sheet in there and throw the gravel back in.
1. Roundup or any other OTC grass killer.
2. Beach at a 50% rate or Ammonia at a 50% state
3. Cover with black garbage bag for two weeks
4. Pull out the bricks and get some garden/weed liner from your local store. Weed whacker the remaining weeds and then spary the grass killer. Cover with the fabric and put the stones back.
Lastly, invite all your neighbors to bring their dogs over to pee on the area. I have never heard of a dedicated grass area for dogs that can survive urine.
Where are you getting 50% bleach from? Store bleach like chlorox is 3-5% out of the jug. The well drillers stuff is only 15% and it is considered industrial strength. I would think at 50% you would have a very serious gasing issue with the chlorine.
Sorry, for the confusion and you are right about the gassing issue with a true 50% mixture. You would also have to know the mixture of soil composition as to not produce other noxious gasses. I mean a 50% mixture of OTC bleach.
