So here's the deal.... I want to put in a complete "EGR Delete Kit", Oil Pump Screen, Turbo Oil Feed Line, and Drain Tube in my pickup for obvious reasons. My dilemma is this... Do I fork out the cash and just do the "Delete Kit" etc... now or do I wait until my head gaskets blow out again and do the whole works including the headstuds? I have been told if I look after the first part of this equasion that I may not need to worry about head gaskets again, which is odd because I thought the factory headbolts were the issue?
I have purchased the ARP Headstuds and planned on doing the whole deal the next time my head gaskets blew but perhaps if I change out the other EGR garbage I won't need the studs???
So what do you think would be a good decision without wasting $$$?
I have a stock turbo.... for now! If this sucker blows up though you can bet your a$$ it's goin' bye-bye too!

If you do the work together, most places will only charge you the labor associated with the head R&R, so if your not planning on doing the labor yourself, you can save some scratch that way. Plus, if you plan on doing any other mods, that's when I would suggest doing them as well.

Factory headbolts are an issue. I blew heads and my EGR system was fine, but I got rid of it anyway because if it didn't blow then, it was going to with all the mods I was putting on it. I think there is an issue that can cause an EGR system failure as well as a headbolt issue, but I don't think "you" can make the connection of taking care of the EGR system that "you" won't have headbolt issues.

No, there is a good chance you'll have your truck in the shop for headbolt issues.

When one or the other goes, I would suggest doing it all then if you can afford it. Chances are if you had EGR system issues, that sooner or later your headbolts are going to bite you in the ***.

Headbolts and headgaskets issues are one thing and egr issues are another thing and they are not 100% related. Egr delete doesn't mean you are not going to have headgaskets failures.
Ussually headgaskets, headbolts damage are related to overload, tuners and of course cooling system failures. If you put your ARP's and leave the egr cooler installed you still run the chance of having a cooler failure that if not diagnosed and repaired on time could lead to a catastrofic engine failure.
On the other hand if you delete your egr cooler and later on you install a programmer or abuse your engine you could get into heads failure. If you want to make your engine bulletproof you need to do both.
In my case my engine still on warranty. When the time come and my warranty expire I'll delete the egr and since I don't tow or chip my truck I'll hang with the factory bolts.
I think once the egr cooler is gone heads failures can be avoided with a good set of gauges and some common sense in a stock engine.

There are alot of people that didn't tune their truck that had head problems. Tuning doesn't mean that you'll blow headbolts either. There are plenty of people that have tuned their trucks and haven't had any problems for a long time.

Could be avoided, it depends on what gauges you get and if you know what ranges that you should be in to properly take care of that engine. However, you can do all that and still have headbolt issues. It's crappy, but it does happen.
I think I'll take what Tex and El have given and run with it. I will do the EGR Delete kit in the hopes that my headbolts don't crater on me and if they do somewhere down the road I guess I'll change them out. It'll suck if the headbolts go though cuz it'll mean I shelled out $1400 for the EGR stuff that I could have had done the same time as the studs.... but then they cost $6000 to do!
I use my Edge on the mileage setting only, unless I am towing my holiday trailer than I'll use the tow mode in conjunction with the factory tow mode. I am really considering one of those SCT units everyone mentions on here as I've heard they are easier on transmissions for the Ford.
