Hi all,
I've been looking at a tuner and BTS Valve Body. So, I noticed that a PHP tuner is significantly cheaper than both DP and TW. Is the PHP just as good as DP and TW? I noticed that less people have PHP, that's why I'm wondering. Just looking to save some money without sacrificing too much quality.
Thanks
Go with Dp. Jody knows his stuff with 7.3s. You get his knowledge along with the BEST tuner out there. Spend the few exrta bucks. Im a beliver now. My feelings are when i can take a 2004 commonrail cummins in a race with a tuner on it also i got a winner!
Jody (DP Tuner) makes a great product, but so does Tony Wildman (TW) and Bill Cohron (PHP). I had a DP F5. Now I have a PHP. The PHP seems to suit my truck better. Some times spending extra money is just spending extra money.
No doubt they all make good products or they wouldn't still be in business. DP-Tuner now has the new F6 chip and with this you can download your own tunes and even try them out for a while before you buy. I would have went this way, but with 12 tunes already, I couldn't imagine what else I could want. Not sure about the others, but with Jody's, you can load up to 16 tunes and something I really like about mine, when I get out of my truck and fearful of theft, I just pull my switch out and drop in my pocket and they ain't nobody starting the truck without that....
Thanks for the perspectives, guys. I don't see myself going with an F6, because I can't imagine having that many tunes. I think I'd be happy with a daily tune for economy, a mid-range tow tune, and a fast tune. I think I'll look into the PHP for now, just because it's less expensive, and it's hard to scrape the money together at 17, and I'm going to need tire soon (yikes!). Anyone else have experience with PHP?
I understand and good luck. There are several around with PHP and seem happy. You may want to just have your PCM flashed for now. Something like the 80 econo will do everything you mentioned.

Yes, I do. I just bought a Phoenix chip with 6 tunes, (one was stock, so no charge).
To my door was $380something and the install was brain dead simple.
Best of all the truck runs better than ever.
Hey Dan, did you have PHP tune for transmission upgrades (if you did any)? I have sort of special requests for shifting in different tunes (I tow horses, so the tow tune has to have soft shifts, but the other tunes can be hard). How do you like the shifting?
You don't hear much about PHP because it's a newer company in the custom tuning business. Of course the guys like Jody and Tony have a bigger customer base since they were selling tunes while Bill was working for Edge.
Keep in mind that a "softer" shift is a slower shift, which is hard on the tranny. A quick, firm shift does not mean it's a jerking shift. Most tunes, and I'm sure Bill's too, will increase line pressure to firm up the shifts, thereby extending the life of the tranny. Some of the off the shelf stuff will shift too hard in some instances since the tunes are written to be all encompassing.
My wife's truck came with an edge tuner that had a rough shift. She's got tunes from TW now and a transgo kit and it shifts much better. Firm, but not jerky. I wouldn't hesitate to haul my horses with her set up. I imagine Jody & Bill's tunes are the same way.

I have a stick shift, so sometimes I really like the way the truck shifted, and other times I wonder what the heck is wrong with the TCM!!!
Any of the tuners will do you a good job. Bill(PHP) has been in the tuninig business since 1997. Give your tuner of choice a call and discuss you shifting needs they will be able to answer your concerns. I have had DP and now have PHP. both run well. I just like the way my truck with the PHP Better.
