Just bought a '96 RV on the E-350 Chassis with the 460, the horn didn't work but I figured no big deal.....on the 9 hr drive home the horn would all of a sudden sound off for about 30 seconds then stop, it did it twice but never again.
I checked the contact switch under the steering pad and it seems to work fine. When I checked for voltage at the horn itself it had 12v all the time regardless of whether the button was pushed.
Everything I have read online says the horn relay is in the power box under the hood but the O&M and the sticker in the box don't mention it.
First Q: does anyone know where the horn relay is on this thing?
Second Q: Is it possible the horn was on for an extended period due to a fried relay and just died?
This is one of the strangest problems I have come across, any help is appreciated.

Not a problem unless it has ground all the time ;-) On a Ford your contact switch usually closes a ground, not a positive connection. I would suspect a bad relay or more likely a loose wire.
If you are not sure which is the relay, put a test lamp on that (+) wire and start pulling and replacing the relays one by one. When the lamp goes out, that is the correct relay and now you know you have another problem and it is probably not the relay.
Do a search for "clock spring" (I think that applies to your year) and on your year I think I remember the cruise module causing a horn problem too.

OK, just read a few other threads on the clockspring issue. What I didn't mention because I thought it was unrelated was that the ABS light is on, I assumed that was wheel sensors as they have been a problem in every other Ford I have owned. If I am reading correctly it sounds like it may be the Speed Control Servo/Amplifier Assembly 9A825 if both the hrn and ABS fail as they are on the same circuit. Any thoughts?
Just to close this thread out, I did finally find the problem. The idiot who owned the RV before me replaced the battery, in doing so he knocked the horn relay off the firewall mount and it fell in the battery tray, he then bolted the battery down on it and crushed it, lucky the thing didn't burn to the ground! There was no way to see it until I pulled the battery and just happend to find it, wtf.....
