I've been hearing of this place since forever, been all around it, but never actually seen it or camped there. Anybody here ever been? Worth going in the winter for a weekend? Too many dopers? All opinions welcome.
I saw an episode of Huell from there, it looked like a pretty interesting bunch.
Yeah, I saw that too. And the Salvation Mountain guy is right nearby. I just saw The Slabs in the movie "Into the Wild" and that piqued my interest again. It's only a few miles from where we often Dove hunt, and it wouldn't be too bad to pull a TT down there, with a big genie for the AC.
I just don't think I would want to take Carol and hang around a bunch of long haired, maggot infested, hippie type college professors. If that's what it is, maybe it's not.
If I go out to the middle of nowhere, I personally don't want to be anywhere near a place like that..Sounds worse than Vegas to me..Did you read about the tent camping area behind Poverty Flats? Yikes..
been there, we trained not too far from there a few times while i was in the marines. Your right it is a very interesting place, but i wouldn't really recommend camping there. alot of scavengers out there that will try ANYTHING to take anything they can. If your really interested in it i would recommend maybe making a trip to see it during the day and then seek out a better place to stay . just my opinion.
