Not the thread, but the fact that just before checking out GNAC here on FTE and seeing this thread, I was surfing through yahoo through various articles on FTL (Faster Than Light) travel.
The next leaps will be Fission and Fusion-powered spacecraft. I'm not sure if 'dark-matter' is the same as 'anti-matter'.......But it's generally agreed that an energy source like anti-matter, which is magnitudes more powerful than nuclear, will need to be developed to propel ships on FTL interstellar journeys.

The theories of space propulsion really are endless. My main concern would be that space isn't empty, so you need a way to shield the ship against even the most minute particles. Going 1/2 the speed of light, the little grains of dust ever- present in space will erode the hull away in seconds.
