Check coolant now!!

The purpose of this thread is to warn or educate 6.0 owners about their coolant.

I have a co.truck at the ford dealer for a egr cooler failure.

Dealer says it is not covered under warranty because the coolant nitrite level is low.(this caused the cooler failure) I say BS !

They wanted vehicle maintenance records !(never heard of this before) because of aftermarket filters.

The truck is a 2005 f250 6.0,78k. mi.
(actually the bosses own personal truck, looks like new)

All service has been done according to maint. schedule from ford.

Coolant service is not required until 105k.mi.

Something new they are doing because ford is spending a lot of $ on this reair. The service writer even told me " if you brought this in last year,we wouldn't be having this conversation"

Obviously,I am fighting this w/ ford and the dealer.Starting to get ugly.

So.....take the time, check the nitrite level in your 6.0,adjust as necessary, document, and may help you in the future.

The dealer did offer to do the repairs at a reduced rate of $40.00/hr.because we are a good customer

Waiting on ford to call back.

Was the original air intake filter replaced with an aftermarket system or filter or is it original? If original, I'd be contacting FMC ASAP. Or at least go to another Ford dealer.

The truck is completely original as from the factory.

The in service date is sep. 04.

The truck is within warranty.

I called 2 other dealers,1 said "never heard of that before, bring us the truck,we will be glad to do the warranty work"

Second dealer said" I got an e-mail 30 days ago about this, but we haven't done anything different so far"

Make a long story short: both other dealers "suspect" there is a problem w/my local dealer concerning their status w/ ford warranty.

That being said; I will pick up my truck tomorrow from this dealer and take it to another one.

Point being,( I have 6 dealers w/in 25 mi.) if you don't, be sure to have all of your "ducks in a row",because ford is cracking down on some of these warranty repairs, and some dealers may not offer repairs covered under the warranty, due to "lack of maintenance".

They have updated their 6.0 maintenance schedule, but have not sent it to all owners.(I had them send me one)

( I also contacted the fleet rep.who is supposed to be taking care of this,I have yet to hear back)

Seems funny to me that some dealers can deny warranty, while others will not.

Just some FYI for 6.0 owners.

I really like the trucks ,but ford has got to step up.

(think i'll go buy a 7.3 )

You buy test strips from ford;rotunda #328-00001,(follow the directions)

Basically-dip the strip in coolant,shake it off,wait (45 sec.I think),compare the colors w/ a chart provided, and adjust as/if necessary.

to adjust, add supplemental coolant additive motorcraft VC-8.

If you get the kit, all the instructions and part no.# will be on it.

FWIW - I took my truck to another dealer and they fixed it under warranty,no questions asked.Oil and EGR cooler replacement.
I found my new dealer. Been w/ the other one for about 15 yrs.

How does a private citizen

Aquire part number Rotunda 328-0001? I called them, they only sell to Ford dealers.

I went onto Acustrip website and cannot convert the part number listed above to anything on the Acustrip web. Close but not exact. At those prices I want the correct product.

The things are spendy also.

Anyone want to sell me five or so strips?

I just removed and replace my coolant. I got the truck warm enough to have the stat open, waited a bit and opened the ****. IMO there is no way I drained 28 quarts of coolant.

I added 1 gallon of full strenght G-5, one gallon of distilled water, one gallon of G-5 and one gallon of d water. The coolant level is coorect in the bottle. Should I be paranoid or assume all is OK and not do the Nitrate test?

I do not tow much and when I do its only a 19 foot bow rider.

Thanks,

BigJim

You can buy them from your dealer.

This is not new for diesel trucks, but all the kits I use on our fleet are for "units per gallon" not ppm as ford decided to use.

I have to buy their kits as well .
