when i return to the states in aug im going to be rebuilding by 4.9 300 in my 96 f150. i would like to go ahead and change all the sensors. so can some one provide me with a complete list for this truck and also any thing else i should do while the engine is torn down.
I think you are asking for trouble.
Replacement sensors can be bad or there range may be off from the factory range.
Replace sensors one at a time if they are bad.
Most sensors can be checked with a DVM.
For information on sensors go to this link: Ford Fuel Injection Sensors
Then you can click on each sensor for more information on it and how to test it.
That depens on if it is a california truck or not.
The 96 had a Misfire sensor and the 95 did not.
The 96 had Delta Pressure Feedback EGR (DPFE) Sensor and the 95 did not.
The 96 had a MASS sensor and the non-California 95 did not.
Also the 96 is an SFI engine and the 95 was MFI.
Maybe others but this what I can think of off hand.
ok do the non obd2 engines have places for these sensors or am i gonna have to modify the block
Other than the Misfire sensor I think the blocks are the same.
The DPFE and maybe the O2 sensors would have more to do with the exhaust manifold and system.
Most of the rest would be the wiring in the engine compartment and the engine wiring itself.
The Misfire sensor on the crank pulley is for information only.
It does not effect how the engine runs but may set a code in the PCM or turn on the MIL (CEL).
Others have left it unwired with no engine running problems but they never reported back if the they had a MIL on or if there was a code set in the PCM.
