Gas Tank

Would a newer F150 gas tank (say 80's) fit on a 79?

It will fit, I put a 92 tank in the back of my 77(over the spare). The issue you have to look our for is where the vent tube hooks up at. Starting in the 80's Ford was using canisters and stuff so there may be more holes then before. I would assume that yours is shot and you are looking in the salvage yards for another tank. Based on the rust issues of gas tanks in the salvage yards and the cost of a new one from Canada I would suggest you contact your local auto parts dealer and get a new tank.

My one parts truck, a 78 4x4 F-150, had a newer style side mount plastic tank under it. Fit perfectly too, but not sure what it came out of originally.
