I will be upgrading to 4.56 gears someday, and want to have a little more traction than just the open diffs I currently have. I was looking at 4wheel parts, they have a package deal with a detroit true-trac LS for the front and a detroit locker for the rear. The total cost of this package is $1400. Does that include install or something, cause it seems high to me.
Another question, being that I have a fairly short wheelbase, I was thinking getting a locker in the rear might not be the best thing to do. What are some other options besides an air locker. Is there something that is inbetween a LS and a locker in terms of traction?
what would you guys suggest?

I'm not sure if the price includes install or not but a Detroit is about $500 and most others are in the 200~600 range. I have heard about the detroit in a short wheelbase and the effect it has handling ice and corners.
Other than Detriot and ARB you have about 6 other choices.
Including:
QuickLoc
Detroit Gearless
TracLok
TrueTrac
AuburnGear limited slip
I'd get a copy of one of the off road mags and look at the ads.
Like any mod you do to your rig, you have to adjust your driving style accordingly. I have a lock-rite in my ranger. The week after I installed it (after doing the 4.10 gear swap too) I wanted to rip it out. But a little longer and I got used to it, now I wonder how I ever got along without it. I have heard Ox lock has a cable operated locker for a good list of Dana axles and I think maybe the ford 9".
Most likely the $1400 price tag includes the front Truetrac, the Detroit Locker for the rear, both gear sets, and master install kits, that is everything you need, besides tools of course. Unfortunately that price is in the right ball park, however you can do better. I made the same changes to my 95 F-150, just a different gear ratio, and I think I spent a couple hundred less, even after shipping. As mention in a previous post, the best thing to do would be to buy an offroad mag. and do some calling around. Most places will match or beat prices so you can knock off quite a few bucks. Good luck.
