Good country is coming back stronger than ever.I listen to Radio Free Texas.org a lot.It plays lots of good new artist & great country.I've heard the group you posted there.
i love In Color. it is a good story and most of us can relate to it in one way or another. it makes me wish my grandfather were still here so we could figure out who the people are in our old family pictures.
it also has a spot in my memory listening to it with friends in Fort Dodge, IA when it just came out,
Good artists that write their own music have always got more of my attention than those who just "perform" songs. Artists like Johnson are getting noticed more and for that I'm very happy. Some of my favorite musicians are the ones who do their own writing. Those of you who have heard of Randy Rogers Band know what I mean (great music, I highly recommend if you like southern style country/rock). One band that I really wished would have made it big was Cole Deggs and the Lonesome, but sadly they dissolved after only two (very good two) singles. As much as I love songwriters I love George Strait, and for those of you who are wondering, not one of his 57 number one's were penned by him! I think he wrote one song on an early album but it never made it to the radio EDIT: the song was "I can't see Texas from here"
George Straight still has a way of telling a story like nobody else! There are a few like him, Alan Jackson comes to mind as well as Craig Morgan. I also like the Zac Brown Band. They just seem like a bunch of good ol' boys doing what they love.
Country music over the past 10 years or so has turned me off as they've strayed further from thier roots of story telling, momma, trains, trucks and well, you know the song.
When those three country music ladies were playing in Britan and denounced our President, I just about had enough. I won't even say thier names. They disgust me and they were the beginning of hip hop country which in my humble opinion really sucks eggs.
I went back to classis rock, 60's, 70's and very early 80's. Bring back the old country and I'll come home.
tseekins you need to check out the red dirt country thats hot in Texas now.Its the old country you are missing. My friends cd in my post Check out this country music is like the country music you talk about.

Couldn't agree more. I quit watching most of the awards shows because they have gone so far out from real country it's pathetic. While I still listen to a lot of country, I also get into Celtic & Irish......Maura O'Connell comes to mind ...."Waltzing's For Dreamers" is about as county sounding as it gets, And the instrumental part......Of course not all her music sounds country, but that's to be expected.

Theres more talent in country music than anywhere else, It just needs to lose the hip hop/pop overtones (and Rascal flats/Taylor Swift) and return to its original sound....... I tried going back to classic rock not long ago, but its still just the same old stuff and bores me, what they call "rock" music today is unrecognizable to me.......So, I just keep changing the stations when Taylor Swift comes on, and hope country music finally comes home.
I was telling my last night (while i suffered thru the awards show) that Jamey Johnson reminded me of Waylon. And "In Color" made me think of my grandfather who is gone, and my dad who is still here. And for anyone who saw the awards show when they interviewed Jamey, he is definately not a man of many words!!!! I will be working Security for Jamey when he comes to Knoxville soon.
