Throttle Cable
Hi everyone!
My throttle cable snapped yesterday.
I looked all over town today, but no one has one.
I'm hoping someone on here can give me some advice or a point in the right direction as to where to find one.
My truck is a '66 Ford F100 with a 390 V8.
The cable measures about 20" long, and is the "ball" style, where the ball is attached to the carb and the gas pedal, and the cable slides over the ball, and a small sleeve slides over that.
First of all how does it come apart, obviously it's out of the truck now because it's in 2 pieces, but other than the end looking like it may have been crimped on by the carb end, I can't tell how you would get a new one in.
Also...What year trucks may have the same cable?
I'll attach a picture, although it's pretty blurry, it may help give you an idea what it is.

This topic came up just recently and I beleive most people are opting to go with a Lokar universal cable for $35. The replacement cable will attach and detach the same way as the original. My 66 has a similar connection on the gas pedal inside the cab.

I had to replace mine and used the lokar, i bought it at summit it was easy enough to install.... i think i did it in 3 or 4 hours. a 4 inch grinder with a metal cutting blade makes easy work of cutting the pieces to the correct length, use tape arounnd the cable ends so they dont fray, the cable ends attach with a set screw, IF you have a local hot rod shop call them to see if they have it in stock, after i orderd mine i found Don's Hot Rod shop had one on the shelf. the only mod i had to do was grind the ball socket off the gas pedal and straighten the end of it to allign the cable with the pedal.

I ended up ordering one through Obsolete Reliable Parts Co. using the old link provided.
Hopefully I'll get it soon and all will be fine.
ps) the BMX cable made me laugh, cuz I was thinking...there's got to be a cheap/easy way to do this.

I can save you a week of waiting. that place does NOT have one in stock, I orderd one from them back in september...... i never got a conformation that they sent it out, so i called them.
the guy said the website needs to be updated. looks like he never took care of it.
i suggest you call and find out for sure if they have one or not,
But i am 100% certain they wont have it.

We saw the old link and thought that maybe they didn't have one then, but maybe they do now!
I guess I'll have to call tomorrow and see.

Well, you were right Bill,
I called Obsolete Reliable and the guy gave me the same story it sounds like you got. The thing that gets me, is why did I have to call to find that out, why wouldn't he contact me.
Oh well, I appreciated the heads up!
The BMX cable might just be the option I go with after all. We'll see.
