Did you try National Parts Depot or LMC Truck? They have many restoration parts for these old trucks. They may have the cable.
NO one reproduces this cable.
National Parts Depot (NPD) is an FTE sponsor. Look on this page among the sponsors for the link to their website.
Additional FTE sponsors: CAROLINA-CLASSICS / MAR-K / MAC'S ANTIQUE AUTO PARTS / AUTO KRAFTERS / BLUE OVAL TRUCK PARTS
LMC is not an FTE sponsor, they don't need to be since some of y'all give them FREE advertising every day.
LMC doesn't repop much of anything as they are a middleman, buying the parts from other sources, then selling them to y'all, marking the prices up in the process.
btw: I found the OP a correct NOS (New, Old Stock) Genuine Ford cable, so he's all set.
My lokar cable came in yesterday from Summit. I ordered it Sunday and got it Wednesday. Won't be putting it on till this weekend, but I'll let you know how it works.
I called Obsolete Reliable and the guy gave me the same story it sounds like you got. The thing that gets me, is why did I have to call to find that out, why wouldn't he contact me.
Well you may already have your problem fixed but I'll post this for the next guy who uses the search function.
I have a Lokar high tech cable, but I imagine it should not be any different than the universal cable as far as mounting. The only difference is probably the braided line. Remove your gas pedal by removing the 3 bolts on the outside bracket. Also slide the retaining clip back on the line hooked to the pedal. Here is what you have.
For the kit I used you need to remove the stud from the gas pedal. It is cast and you can bust it off with a little effort. You could also drill it out if thats what you want to do. The original hole is exactly the correct size for the pin that comes with the kit. I would not over drill it, but thats up to you.
The original cable hooked up as mentioned to a post. This kit I used hooks directly to the pedal. To correct the offset issue I straightened out the pedal so I would get a direct pull.
Used a washer on each side of the bracket to take up some space. This pic shows the bracket mounted back on the truck.
Inside of cab.
As for mounting to your carb, my setup is definately no longer stock, so your kind of on your own there. For anyone interested, this is what the complete throttle cable and c4 kickdown kit looks like.
This is by no means a complete set of instructions or the only way this could be done. I considered cutting the old bracket apart and destroying the cable in the process, but opted to just go with the washers to take up space. 10 years from now someone with a straight 6 may need a cable and I'll make a couple bucks.
When I bought my donar truck it would not downshift when I gunned it. Later found the original kickdown rod was gone. Rather than search and mess around this kit seemed like the trick. Thanks for the comment.
