Question Fuel filter replacement?

Hey all... Just picked up my new '95 250 7.3TD, was wondering what i should use for a replacement fuel filter. I bought a Luberfiner from Autozone...the threads were wrong and didnt fit. then i bought a Fram from CAP and it looked like it was a better match but it still tried to strip out the threads. What is a good replacement that will fit? and for the oil filter should i just stay with the Motorcraft? Also...Intake...Wat should I run if i am going to run a 3" downpipe and 5" straight pipe all the way back? Thanks for the info...

Most guys around here go with the standard filter without the cap when doing the replacement. Most of the popular brands (Wix, Motorcraft, NAPA, etc) will work fine. You should be able to reuse your plastic cap until the ears break off or it cracks. Oil filter's are fairly standard as well. I would pick from the brands listed above.

You do not have to change anything with your intake if your changing your downpipe and exhaust. However, you do need to open that engine up and do a cold air intake such as the 6637. There are several kits that you can buy, but many will argue the that the 6637 is the best bang for the buck.

For more info on the 6637 just do a search, you'll find a ton of information on it.

Wix for the oil filter. Good luck with your new rig!

Alex,
Did your PSD come with a removable fuel filter top or was it connected to the filter? I have heard tell but I have never done this but the screw on cap with the filter attached can be separated from the filter and then you can use a "Drop in Filter such as the Wix and others can be used.

Or... ........you can buy just the lid from Ford or International and go that route.

Hey Rog, The filter does not remove from the cap. So are you saying that i can just pretty much break the original filer off the cap and but in a Wix filter that will just float around in there? If so do you know the napa# and or wix# of the correct filter? Thanks

Alex:
That is my understanding. What do you mean by:
"Just Float around in there"?

Remember, I have never personally done this. Get a drop in filter and if the cap that was remover from an attached filter doesn't feel right then buy a cap from Ford. Napa may even sell just the caps (Lids)

Perhaps someone that has salvaged the lid from an attached filter will jump in and share their experience.

If you get a filter at NAPA then just buy the lid from them too. They sell the lids.

The last I heard things were changing when it came to getting filters without caps. I believe it was going to be that you can only get a filter with a cap. May just be NAPA.

Yep, that's what I would do. The filter has to fit in there pretty tight (top and bottom wise).

I wish we had regular threaded filters on these trucks. Sometimes those lids are impossible to remove.

If you're still using the original Ford / International lid you can make on of these:

Now that's a great idea, Rodney. Reps sent. I don't have access to a welder.

Wanna make one for me?

Macco tool trucks also carry a similar tool just for PSD filters. Don't recall what i paid for but a large screwdriver also works great.

I think that some of the problems with breaking the caps/lids loose is to make sure that the gasket is turned right and there really is no need to torque that cap down until you turn blue in the face. JMHO
