Maybe because that Ranger won't turn those meats in OD.

Listen, it's called an AUTOMATIC transmission for a reason. If the situation is such that you don't "need" OD, then the tranny won't shift into OD.

Except for the fact these xmsns shift weird. Like 1,2,3 OD, 4 It's hard on them dropping from OD to 2nd in the city.

No reason to be a smart@#$.
I was concerned with lugging the engine more than I was the gas mileage. Running at 1500 or so rpm's, going up a gear then dropping to lower rpm's, then downshifting etc. I know it's hard on a bike's tranny, but I also know this ain't no bike.
Simple question.
Thank you.
I live over in Cherokee County by Pine Log Mtn.
a lot of ridge & valleys
I keep OD off as I never go over 55mph & 2000rpm's
I belive it is better, than the trans constant shearching
which I belive leads to longer Trans life
I'm with jsoko, my truck at 45mph drops into 4th, at 1200rpm or so, it seems to bog the engine then when accelerating to 55mph, rather it just stay in 3rd
I wasn't trying to be. I was just statin' the facts. You cannot lug an engine with a properly functioning automatic transmission.
Now, if your truck is constantly hunting between OD and 3rd, then go ahead and lock it out. However, highly unlikely that you could do damage in 6 miles. I doubt the transmission fluid temp is even 100° by the time you get to work.

I see what you're sayin' but if the truck is capable of doing it then I don't think it is that big of an issue. Plus, for it to go from OD to 2nd requires some driver input (read: heavy foot) and that can be controlled.
weenies or nannies yea I guess, but only since the evolution read over 80% engine load when lightly accelerating from 1200 to 1600 rpms (45mph-55mph), and reads 40% engine load when doing 85 mph @ 2200 rpms
