Overdrive neutraling out.
2004 F150 60800 miles. Service at 35k and the other day in search of metal.
I found a couple of small metal pieces and some gunk on the magnet. The fluid was clean and smelt fine. We have been getting it with afternoon rain almost everyday in CO. There was no water in the fluid and the connections of the wires going into the tranny are clean.
Issue: The truck had a shutter last Monday and then OD went out on Wednesday. I changed the fluid and added some cleaner. It I still neutraling out. I did not believe it would be fixed but I wanted to look for metal. I checked the fuses and unplugged the battery to reset the computer. My OD light is not flashing.
When I am cruising around 40mph and I turn the overdrive back on I can now rev it up and it seems to find a little of a gear. A very small catch. Yesterday I ran it on the highway for about five miles at 60mph. When I let my foot off the gas and decelerated to exit it began to shutter just like it did on Monday. Once the gears shifted down it stopped. Question? I need to be able to drive my truck three days a week for only about 15 miles a day with no highway. If my tranny is not killed fully will I kill it while I save up for the worst-case scenario of re-building the tranny? (no warranty) Second? I did do some reading and if it is a slipped OD ring is this relatively easy to spot by pulling some parts? I am decent with a wrench. Could the small catch be a indication that the OD solenoid is all junked up? Thank you in advance for the information. I am simply trying to arm myself with as much knowledge I can before I drop the truck off this week at the dealer to get the error codes.
