With the size of the cooling system on these rigs the motor probably will never reach operating temp even in a warm climate. So far the only time I have had to change mine was because it broke and was stuck open and would not ever reach operating temps unless I was loaded heavy and pulling hills, but it was a lot colder than you will ever see in fl.

Yes, Low Power, Low fuel mileage, excessive engine wear, etc....

Heat is what makes Diesels run, Without heat, they don't run.

Running any motor without a thermostat does not allow it to run at optimun tempature.

I have seen no thermostat cause over heating because the water never slows down enough to cool the motor.

You will not be getting fuel burn like it needs if you were in a cooler area you would be leaving a fuel plume. If everything is new what is the reason to leave the thermostat out.

Maks sense use only ford or international stats there have been many problems reported with aftermarket ones.

I agree with starmilt. I tried the thermostats from Advance and it broke, literally. Next I tried one from NAPA. No change. Checked with the ford dealer and found out they were only a couple of dollars more. Put in the ford t'stat and have been running happily ever after

Put a rubber hose on the petcock valve in bottom of radiator and drain into a clean fuel can or catch pan, or back into your antifreeze jugs if you haven't thrown them away. You will only have to drain about 2 gallons out because the thermostat is up high. Reuse the antifreeze.

speaking of re using the antifreeze, i had to drain and re use the other day. I had one of those 5 gallon bottles of distilled water and the little piece that pops out when you put it on the water dispenser dropped into my radiator and disappeared. I about shat my pants. Luckily the thermostat was shut becasue i took of the top hose and it came out but man i was worried there for a sec. Think it would have hurt anything?

The water enters your engine through your bottom hose so all it would really do is block a few cores, still not anything you want in there.

Thats what i figured, need a new radiator anyway in the near future though. The fins at the bottom are all clogged up and they fall off when touched so i cant spray them clean. oh well.

These radiators are not cheap (ouch). Heres one for you nearly all radiators are painted black why is that as paint holds heat and black seems like it would be worse the sun wouldn't be shining on it though but I still always wondered if it wouldn't be better to leave them unpainted.
