Unpainted would be better exchanging heat, but for us that live where salt is used on winter roads, that is not an option.
All of the local radiator shops repaint the radiators before they go out the door to help with corrosion protection.

Yeah the one i saw at lordco was unpainted on all the fins so good there but the top and sides were black. Make them from all aluminum and leave them alone is what i would like to see.

With the road salt here in the winter, I'll keep my brass radiator.
Most heavy duty diesel coolants do not contain silicates to protect aluminum.
Silicate precipitation out of the coolant clogs cooling systems, one thing we don't have to worry about.

Also to the original poster, since the diesel uses compression and engine heat for combustion, lower engine temps mean the engine efficiency is down when the temps are lower than 195 degrees.
So your power and fuel mileage should be suffering.
