Lincoln 460 headers
I'm buying a new car tomorrow, 1978 Lincoln Continental 2 door with a 460 (I know, technically its not a truck, but really...)
The car is mechanically in good shape, and I want something to hot rod in a little bit (superduty diesel, straight six f-150... i admit it, i want a little softer ride on the freeway...). I have future plans to rebuild the engine from the top down (intake, cam, heads, etc...) and would like to get a good power cruiser as an end result. however, i'm having trouble finding any info on headers that will bolt up and fit that body. I know that any header will bolt up while the engine is sitting on the engine stand, but i would prefer to find something that would clear the firewall without dragging on the ground. I know that headers off of a torino will bolt on, and only require minor clearancing, but then they need lots of work to get them to clear the floor pans. I know lots of you out there have done work on cars in another life (
). I was wondering about headers from a truck, van, or one of the conversion sets for all those guys running the 385 series in fox body mustangs, maybe even a set designed for the motorhomes if nothing else, if i could get different measurements from spare sets anyone has around i can pre-check clearance. say centerline of flange to bottom of collector. the engine is pretty tight to the front suspension, so i imagine they'd have to hug pretty close. i'll plan on updating the site on the build up even though its on the car, since the general engine work is the same. I just have this certain loyalty to FTE!
prayer for the night:
Dear Lord Moderator: please relocate this to a more appropriate forum if you can think of one, and if you don't want me to update on the car anymore, just mark it down and i won't...
