So I was parked, e-brake set, engine running. When I released the e-brake it came up with the normal wack but this time it seemed the engine stopped for a split second, oil, check engine and SES lights came on. maybe some others but those are the ones I noticed.
Anyone have any thoughts? I'm thinking something near the PCM is loose but what. Could it be something else? Maybe I should start the truck and start fiddling under the dash and see what I can make happen, besides a fire
Could be. I don't have a spare at this moment but I do need to get one. Was hoping Clay would have one. Any idea where to get a black one?
And does anyone have any further ideas? I find it strange that it happen for a split second when the ebrake gave the e-brake bumper a good wack is when the lights came on and the engine acted as if it was turned off and back on within a split second.
make sure you check where the 110 pin plug connects to the PCM from inside the engine compartment, ya know that 3/8th bolt that holds it to the PCM. Most would agree the new CPS (blue or grey depending how you look at it) is a POS that is a lousy design and causes more problems that Ford ever fixed!!!
I too believes it could be a loose PCM, but does anyone know how has the cheapest BLACK CPS for sale??
Danny, seem's like a hit and miss trying to find these black CPS's now. Clay got his hands on a bunch awhile back and he sold out fast. Call around to some International Dealers, might get lucky, real lucky..
Since the check engine light came on, perhaps there are codes stored? Have you tried a code reader? Yous might all be right, but I would suggest reading codes first.
I believe that's the one that nobody wants, IIRC. If it's the same one that Ford uses for the recall, then that's the one. The dealership did the recall on my truck, and I can't remember if I felt any difference, but I took it out and replaced it with my old black spare I had, so I keep the blue / grey one for a spare. I mean it WORKS, but most will say not as good as the black one.
Can anyone explain better than I why it isn't as well liked as the black one???

The gray one has been known to have higher (bad) Rotational Velocity % numbers on #3 and #8 cyls. The black one gives a smoother idle and possibly better mpgs. I noticed and an improvement in both with the black one. Not all trucks have "allergic reactions" to the gray one, but most do notice an improvement over it. The gray one also caused "phantom" codes that were misdiagnosed very costly, if outa warranty, to the owner.
