Gauges jump at startup

My 99EXP-EB has started to do something funny when I first start the engine in the mornings. As normal all the lights in the dash come on, then when I start the engine the tach and speedometer needle goes to the max (all the way to the opposite side) and the return back to continue to function normally.
I do not know what could cause this behavior on my tach and speedometer, those anyone have experience something like this ?.

I will appreciate any help or suggestions.
Thank you
Roberto.

The gauges will do this each time the PCM is reset. I couldn't imagine why your PCM would be resetting by itself....usually takes disconnecting the battery for a period of time.

Thank you Jim for your reply.
I have a theory that what is doing this is my 3 year old battery. Perhaps at the first start is taking all the juice to start the engine and the PCM reset it self. Just a theory....

Did you change the battery and the problem went away? I am having the same issue.

FTE Rocks!!! I had the same problem and was about to take advantage of the extended warranty then I read this string and that along with noticing that the Expy was getting a little hard to start. I replaced the Battery and viola! The guages don't jump any more at startup. Whohoo!!!

I have this same problem and I am curious about what harm if any this does to PCM or other systems. Does this mean that the PCM has to relearn my driving habits every time I start the truck. I will be getting a new battery to see if that stops the problem

It didn't seem to harm any systems that I can tell. Whether it re-learns or not is sort of irrelevant, considering after your new battery it will relearn hopefully for the last time.
