What rear do I have?

Can anyone help me identify this rear? There is a tag on it:

WDM-AG 2HC
3.00 9 343A

I think its a 9". I would like to know the gear ratio, if it is a posi, and what year it is if possible. Any information on what these letters mean would be great.I want to install this on my 56 F-100.

I think it came out of a 1972 F-100. But i'm not sure.

Please help

Jerry

i beleive that you have a 3.00 gear rearend. if the guts on the rearend come out of the front of the rear you have a 9" rear. thats all i can help ya.

What rear do I have?

thanks for the info redranger.

It is a 9". I guess it must be a 3.00. But that is what has me puzzled. All of my books don't list a 3.00 ratio for a 1972 F-100.
I was told when i bought it that it was out of a 72. Thats why i was wondering if any of those letters could tell you what year it was.
Or maybe it wasnt even from a truck. ???
Maybe someone can decipher this one for me.

One more Question about this 9".
I have noticed weld seems about 3 inches down the axle tube on both sides. ( 3 inches from the center section to the wheels) the weld goes all the way around the tube. Due all 9" have this seem?

Yes, they are like that until the mid/late 1970's. Later ones (i.e. '78) have "overlapped" metal with the welds further outboard. 3.00 indicates a 3:1 open diff and 3L00 is one with a traction-lok. As for the year, I'd guess its original - since few people put the tag and copper sealing washers back on when they reinstall the diff (unless the entire axle assembly was changed). Art

Thanks for the info art. When i saw those welds i was getting worried that i had one that was broke and fixed.Glad to hear that they were all like that.I'm not very familiar with the 9".This must not have traction lok because there is no " L" in the number. Thanks again.

There is a trick to get your rear end ratio. turn the tire or hub or whatever ya got there and count how many times the drivshaft yoke turns. 3 turns of the yoke is 3.00 and so on
