Exclamation Vacuum restrictor?

Hello all new member here, i have a 79 ford f150 4x4 with a 351m stock with California emissions. Does anyone know where to buy a V REST a.k.a vacuum restrictor for my vehicle? Ive searched everywhere plus local junkyards and countless hours of internet research. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I've also tried to find one in the wreckers.

Do you know what color you need? and is it a in-line restrictor, (looks like a vacuum line splice) or a diaphram restrictor like on some carbs, and/or distributors?

Perhaps Numberdummy could help more.

I'm looking for a color coded, "BLUE", and "ORANGE", in-line Vaccum Restrictor myself.

The in-line restrictor is blue.

I have a few of them in my toolbox.

Junkyards and/or parts trucks are your only sources.

So i guess i need a inline restrictor, i read an article on another forum :Charcoal Canister hookup for your car (Cure that gas stink!) - FordMuscle.com Forums

That this guy made a vacuum restrictor for his 460 out of a small round piece of barstock with a 3/16" hole drilled in the center. What do you guys think? Would it work?

So ive been doing some research and vw golfs also had inline vacuum restrictors that were used to monitor boost guages and are the same size as the ford restrictors. Im tempted to order one and see if it works in my application.

On mine the Blue one let's more vacuum through than the Orange one does.

Blue is the most common I've seen.

On my engine for instance I need a Blue one for Wide open throttle, and a orange one for the EGR solenoid that controls my vacuum advance.

Try some 80's vehicles as they were used on them as well.

I don't recall seeing an orange restrictor on 49-state models, even on '79s.

Probably a CA model only item.

Don't forget to look for vans and cars of the same vintage as well.

I don't understand what a "vacuum restrictor" is.

Is it something like a check valve? What does it look like?

Vacuum restrictor...Uh....never heard of such a thing.

How about "One Way Vacuum Check Valve" instead. Ford basic part number: 12A091.

These are plastic, round, with a nipple on each end. All have Ford & Motorcraft part numbers.

There are over 40 different valves 1973 thru 1979, all are color coded.

There are CA only check valves listed for > 1979 < F100/350's & Bronco's with 351M/400's w/A/T, but these same valves were used on other years, other vehicles. SEE BELOW.

I see no all BLUE valve listed.

No BLUE & ORANGE valve listed at all for any 1971/89 car/truck. How about Black/Orange?

The one way valve used in conjunction with the fender apron mounted vacuum reservoir is not the same as any of the others.

I do not know the color codes (parts catalog does not say), but it's still available from Ford, as it's still used on new stuff: D7OZ19A563A =

MSRP: $7.42 // FTE sponsor y2kfordparts.com price: $4.45.
---------------------------------------------------------
Chad: Text: Section 120, page 3 shows the types used. The one way valve is TYPE 3.

Page 4 lists all the colors, part numbers.
---------------------------------------
1979 351M/400 A/T CA ONLY:

D3FZ12A091A (Motorcraft DY135) / BLACK & WHITE.

D9TZ12A091A (Motorcraft DY257) / PINK & PINK.

Oh, but Bill, a such thing does exist!

It is NOT a valve in any way. It just is an inline vacuum restrictor. It's a small plastic part that has a smaller orifice on one end so the Hg output (or input) will be lessened. It is not restricted to one way, either.

Blue vacuum restrictor - D7AE12A225AA*

See the following diagram for the vacuum restrictor:

I took two pics of said vacuum restrictor, so this is indeed in the wild:

One end exposed:

That ought to clear up on what exactly it is.

* - Part number dated 7/18/77. Do not know if it's still current. Nobody has any.

You can look forever for D7AE12A225AA, but you won't find any, because...this is not a part number, it's an ID number.

How about this:

D7AZ12A225B .. Vacuum Restrictor - BLUE / Obsolete

How many would you like?

GREEN SALES COMPANY in Cincinnati OH has 64 = 800-543-4959.

PARTS INTERNATIONAL in Farmers Branch TX has 17 = 888-727-0418.

KINSEL L/M in Beaumont TX has 8 = 800-816-2894.

There are at least 100 more at other dealers/obsolete vendors.
-------------------------------------------------------------
I assumed the part in question was a one way valve, because of the blue/orange colors that another member posted for what he wanted.

There are no tu-tone colors for a 12A225 restrictor.

Parts catalog shows either BLUE or RED (D6DZ12A225B).

Thanks for the ID number, I prolly couldn't have found the fracatta part without it. I don't remember these restrictors at all.

Stupid diagram listed it as a part number.

I need a catalog for IDs & engineering or something. Then again, sometimes I think life is too short to waste reading the parts catalog.

I'll buy a few of them just in case. New is better than used.

I guess the other poster found a red one that has been faded to orange and went to look for an orange one. So he needs to look for a RED one.
