New guy tech questions?

This forum is awesome. I'll post some pics of my Bump and T as soon as I can, but I'm still working it on getting it respectfully roadable.

The problem I have run into is removing my air cleaner. It still has the preheat shrouding going down to the right side and mounting to the exhaust manifold. I have patiently tried to separate each joint but none seem like they come apart. Do I need to pull all this stuff off everytime my carb needs attention?

Second, does anyone have a model/part number for my Borg & Warner Overdrive, or know where I can get a service manual? This was a big buying point for me so I would like to keep it in good working order.

Also I found a solid 8' box made into a trailer, it has Custom badges on the rear corners and 69 SAE lenses, but the 'bump' does not continue all the way down on the tail corner stamping but has marker lights instead. I would like to use it on my 69 Custom Cab and put my bed ends with the bumps on the solid bed. Is this an easy interchange or will I mess up the geometry of the good bed?

Lastly, I have a chance to buy a NOS tailgate, dry, unopened, still banded in a ford box, matching the PN that NumberDummy posted. Should I offer the guy more or less than what a reproduction one goes for in the common catalogues?

Thanks guys

The Ford truck shop manual will have the Overdrive info, try faxonautolit.com.

Make sure you get the entire shop manual, as there were supplements for various years, so you might need, for example, a 1968 manual, with a 1969 supplement.

The air cleaner's tube screws to the air cleaner. The shroud is bolted the the right exhaust manifold. The air cleaner tube is a press fit to the shroud's neck, so it should come off.

1967/72 Styleside tailgate: C7TZ9940700A. Make sure it is NOS, and not a repro.

Some of the repro parts sellers have "creative" packaging that mimics the original Ford packaging.

Parts Guy to the rescue!

Thanks NumberDummy,

After some soaking with PB Blaster and light tapping, I was able to seprate the 'stove pipe' from the 'throat'(?). Now I can start to troubleshoot the vacuum issue...

I am almost positive that the tailgate is an original; it has a sticker with a part number on the right end of the gate and the cardboard is battered with a crooked stamp of the same number. The spot welds that I can see on each end are a bit crude and appear to be the same quality as the gate on Murph77's excellent original '75. I would really like to have some real replacement tin for the day I decide to restore mine, but can't justify spending more on the gate than I did the whole truck, especially if new ones (which I haven't seen in person) are a better value.

Thanks again.
