AOD linkage question

Has anyone been able to use the stock (56) accelerator pedal and a solid linkage to the carb or must I use an aftermarket pedal which uses a cable? I have been told that this is a fact since I will need the kickdown cable for the trans. and its use means I can't use the solid linkage. Just a little confused, thanks

On my 53 I am using the stock linkage but have kind of a unique carb setup on my 351W. For the kickdown cable I am using the Lokar version. I have progressive linkage on the other side and my kickdown cable hooks up there.

I'm using a repo stock linkage from Mid Fifty for the stock accel pedal ( had to move the arm that's protruding into the engine compartment to have a straight line pull with the cable) and a lokar cable from that point forward. I am also using a lokar cable for my AOD trans. The carb is a Edelbrock. Oh yea the engine is a 351W and it's in a 56 F100.

First lets dispell a few rumors.

Yes, I was able to run a stock gas pedal on my 56 when I had it and the 351C. It's tight and there's a fe wmods but it's not too tough to do.

Second, you really don't need a kickdown cable for your transmission. If you stomp on the gas it will sense the vacuum drop and kickdown all by itself. I have a C6 with my 390 in my 51 (with a stock gas pedal btw) and when I push the pedal down it downshifts automatically all by itself and very quickly as well - no cable or rod.

Hmm, yeah, we should do that.

Please don't tell him that. You can get away with it on a C6, but he stated that he's running an AOD. An AOD without its TV cable hooked up is about a 10 minute cruise from being a big, stinky paperweight. It MUST be hooked up and properly adjusted to regulate the line pressure within the transmission.

The Lokar cable comes with a aluminum spacer to get you in the ballpark of 2 to 10 lbs at idle. Transmission pressure gauges are cheap from Mac and will dial it in even more. Ford technicians set it by hand with no gauges at the factory, but if you like to have a firmer or softer shift adjust using the gauges and set to your liking. You are better off setting it by hand and driving than not hooking it up at all and driving it(catastrophic failure)

Are we really gaining anything by using the AOD as opposed to the C6?

a fluid pressure gauge. screws into a port on the tranny (take out a plug)..
don't know what the pressure reading is supposed to be..
(I have seen reports of 25-100, 35, over 100..)

Are you really saving enough gas to warrant such an endeavor?

I hope you don't mind my continued questioning, but won't the lower revs only be seen at interstate speeds (whether on the interstates or not!)?
