Is my tach sensor the culprit?

Hope that works I'm thinking the same thing is happening internally why else would they always start loosing the insulation right at the sensor instead of anywhere else in the wiring.

That is the stress point on the wires.
All the motor vibes are shaking the bejesus out of them at that point, when the start to heat harden it just breaks away.

Yea I have thought of that but if the wires are not touching why would the sensor quit I just always thought maybe getting some internall heat as other wires hooked to the engine are not as prone to cracking near as bad. Hopefully your right it would slow the sale of the new sensors.

i tested my sensor and got 2600 ohms........does this mean the sensor is good for sure???

i also have the same problem, would the bad sensor that bounces the tach all over would that cause the tranny to slip at all?

It i dont think it will make the tranny slip. It will make it shift funny tho.

I finally replaced my tach sensor and it works perfectly now. Now I know what my cold idle speed is. It doesn't bounce with the turn signals anymore either. I love having a fully functioning guage cluster.
