AFter a little more research i believe u are correct starting in the 93 cobra and the 94 and on ford must have realized they were choking off the 5.0 stangs and they came from the factory with 70mm mass air meters instead of the 55mm that were only good for 275hp or so. The trucks it seems were in the same boat as the later 5.0 mustangs and were runing the 70mm mass air meters. It seems the 70mm should be good for 350+ hp. the next constictions i think is the little throttle body...... BBK????
BBK? What does this acronym stand for? 385 series big block?
Basically build the engine the way you want and then match the flow meter to the engines needs. An accurate flow meter is critical to metering the air/fuel ratios and is calibrated through the injection tables etc in the computer. If you need drastic power increases over the stock 302, then you are in for a learning experience on binary and hex etc.
A 347 should be able to use the 70mm flow meter as stock 5.8l used it. I do know others who have used the 90mm lightning meter setup with good results but they had to adjust the high and low slopes to get the proper calibration for good air/fuel metering. I think the 90mm lightning air-box, meter and tubing would be a tad bit harder to find in the junk yard though.
Best of luck.
BBK makes throttle bodies, mass air meters etc. the stock throttle body is 45mm i think BBK makes a 58 and 61MM throttle bodies for the old 5.0 and 5.8 truck intakes.
Are you using the SD throttle body? Mine measures approx 1 15/16 bore on the intake side of the plates and that is doubled when calculating the area of the opening. 5.8966 sq in area
The 70 mm maf meter would be 5.96513 sq in. As you can see the system is pretty closely balanced with a slightly higher velocity through the meter.
If the air meter does not exceed the range of the ECU (above 5.0 volts) for the motor you're using it on, then the transfer function can be altered to work with tuning software. You just need a datalogger to monitor MAF voltage, STFT's, engine load and spark advance.
