I'm going to be ordering floor pans from NPD, but I also have damage to where the back of the cab meets the floor. I haven't been able to find any replacement steel for this, so I'm thinking I should get something and cut to fit.
I'd say stock would be 20 or 22 ga. but I'm not 100% sure. That's just a guess after looking at these things.
if this thread would have come up a week or 2 sooner we could have cut the piece you need out of a rust free cab and sent to you. A buddy just cut up and tossed most of a rust free cab because he couldn't get rid of it. Happens all the time out here in rust free land...
hahaha - I've done it myself 2 or 3 times. Had the cab at a swap meet, etc. - nothing. They are seriously THAT common out here!!!!
Heck - last time I couldn't sell a complete, rust free cab (listed for $50 mind you!) I offered on here to cut any piece off it somebody needed a patch panel for. I sold the floors and that was it. Nobody needed cab corners, drip rails, rockers, etc.
I saved the rockers and still have them, although I wish I would have saved the drip rails now that I found some not so great spots on my crew.
i got the driver side floor from carparts.com they were running free shipping over the weekend. shipped to my door it was 39.54 and looks perfect had it in 2 days.
shipping is cheap right now due to the economy. As are complete, rust free trucks out here. I have suggested many times that guys buy trucks out here and have them shipped wherever you are.
Heck - buy 2 or 3 and have them shipped in the same truck load. Sell the remaining 1 or 2 (or part them out) when you get them back there to make some $$ back...
I went through 3 cabs on my build. Then I started looking in a dryer climate and found a sweet complete truck, rust free, bought it and transferred the body onto my frame. Look around they do exist, look for a dry climate, everything I looked at in my area had rotted drivers side floor, firewall to cowl rot, and the windshield mounting rotted due to a poor CB antenna install. Good Luck, they can be found.
i have a 78 f-250 that i'm restoring and in need of a cab...where are you located, i'm in ny and you can't find anything out here.
I'm in Southern California. People on your half of the country tend to look in the southern states over there for rust free stuff. It's the salt on the roads up there in the frozen north that adds to the quick demise of the steel in car bodies!
Dude......this thread is from 2009. I think he probably has it figured out by now...lol. Please look at the date of the thread before you post.
LOL. I could picture LesPaul patiently sitting in front of his monitor for an answer... his hair now down to the floor, a beard to his knees, and cobwebs spun all over the dusty room....... Waiting.
