After taking everyone's advise about my motor falling apart, I bit the the bullet and found a motor. Paid $120 for a 351W taken out of an 85' bronco. 140,000 miles on it, a bunch of oil residue..... everywhere. The internals looks fine, lots of conpression, all pistons are fine, and the bottem end looks great. Currently I have it all apart so I can replace all gaskets. This motor was the carb version so I am wondering if my intake manifolds from my 92'efi 351W will fit? Anything I need for this conversion? Anything I should do while I have this motor apart?
Do you want a motor that will be reliable for the next couple hundred thousand miles? If so rebuild it right starting with a trip to the machine shop for a thorough inspection and then worked as necessary to return everything to factory spec. If you just put new bearings and gaskets on it you are essentially guaranteeing it will seize within the next few thousand miles.
P.S. All the EFI parts will bolt right on, my 5.8 was originally an '85 351HO 4bbl motor.
The big end of the con rods go egg shaped over time and wear the bearings to match. Placing new bearing on these rods without maching them round produces pinch points on the crank journal and leads to premature bearing failure.
yes your efi intakes will bolt to that 85 motor. I would suggest thought that you pull your E7 heads off your 92 as they are better heads then whats currently on that 85 351w. this would be a good time to go thru everything to ensure long life, get the heads looked at and cleaned up to improve efficency.
