2001 King Ranch misfire
I have a 2001 King Ranch 2wd and it is misfireing when I go up a hill or put it under a load. No light is on and one mechanic told me after hooking up his computer that he could not tell which coil or plug was misfireing unless a light comes on. Does a Ford dealer have equipment that can analyze this problem and pinpoint the coil or plug that is misfireing?

eventually it will give a code when it misses bad enough. someitmes you can stomp on the throttle on- off- on, and get excessive missfire and get the code. another way to approach the problem is by milage. how many miles? about 100k you are suppose to change out all the spark plugs. i would do that just for general maint. while the COPS are off, look for stress cracks or hard rubber boots. put them back on and replace as needed, or you can get a full set of 8 on e-bay for $100. if you want to do it once and be done with it................. use the Motocraft plugs, not others.

A resistance test on a COP doesn't do much good. The dealer should run a stress test on the engine to determine which COP is failing. I have the same trouble with my King Ranch. I have new coils, just haven't gotten fed up enough with it to take the time to install them. Good luck!
