Max ac defrost while everything else works

Hello Gents,
I have a 2003 f-150 with the digital EATC controls. I have searched the site and cannot seem to find the exact solution to my problem. It all started when my a/c was shifting from vent to defrost under load. I found that problem and got it fixed (bad check valve). But here is my new issue. If i put the a/c on max it goes directly to defrost (blows good and cold). Which from what I have read is not uncommon and I may have another vacuum leak which I will look for. Here is the part that is killing me. If I have it on max and then hit the vent button it goes right to vent and does not shift back and forth but it seems like the a/c turns off. or if i do not have it on max and just dial down the temperature it stays on vent but the air does not get cold. I am not sure if i am dealing with multiple problems here or not. Any Help would be appreciated. If i missed the answer in the forum I apologize.

I'd check for vacuum leak or bad vacuum actuators first. Could also be a bad head unit. Sure that the lines are connected correctly after the previous work?

Yeah I checked all the lines after I replaced the check valve. I even took a vacuum pump and pulled 20" on the lines to make sure they did not bleed down. I will be tearing into the actuator this weekend. Thanks for the help I appreciateit.
