shanes66charger, i would say the stiffer 4x4 suspension would be the factor in a poor ride compared to the rwd F-150 frame, also the solid front axle (Dana 44 i would assume) would also add to the stiff ride, compared to the front twin I beam setup, that is one of the reasons the twin I beam was developed, it gave the F-100s and then the F-150s a better ride, almost a car like, just like the ads of the day said, also did you use the 4x4 frame to its full potential? or did you just leave the front axle alone and just run rwd setup? also i found with my truck before the frame swap (which was a rwd F-100 before we found the F-150 4x4 frame) that it was weak as a kitten, i know after years the suspension gets weak, but it just seemed insanely weak, and was very bouncy do to the weak front coils and rear leafs, and it couldn't handle any weight, i know old suspension parts may have been part of the problem, but i have heard from a lot of people that the F-100 was seen as the grocery getter and nothing more, it was aimed at ride comfort, but now with the new 4x4 frame, all that is behind my trucks future, no more nose tilted into the air with a small load in the box! lol lol personally i don't mind ride comfort sacrifice for the abilities 4x4 gives you, i will see how much a difference there is once my truck is done its frame off resto,

-Brent

yeah i figured the 4wd with dana 44 front for sure was a factor. My frame was a 78 f-150 2wd, and i put the body an 78 f-150 4wd. I agree that I also would sacrifice ride for strength and hauling capabilities.

I should buy a 2wd for long trips though lol, they really do ride like a car!

my 73 has discs in front!

my 78 bronco and my 73 f350 both have the original paint on the frame, bronco is 3/16, 350 is 1/4 wall c channel. no way the same guage was used on all f series.

Was it a 4x4? Haven't seen any 4x4's with disc brakes before 76
