My 99 recently started a miss under loads. I have changed all the boots(non were cracked) and the fuel filter. The biggest problem is no codes. I cant get a check engine (service engine) light.
It idles and revs smooth, just under load it sputters.
Help me, It seems obvious but becuase it intermitent it must not send a fault.
You've already done good by replacing the fuel filter. That would be the first thing I would look at. I would test the coil packs if I were you. Typically when they start to go it will be under heavy load.
I now get a DTC p1000.
What is this?
Towed my 10k trailer this weekend, it mis-fired only in OD on trip out(45mi)
On the way home, once warm it mis-fired while below 2500 rpm.
I have now replaced the COP's one at a time, done the boots and plugs. It still misses, Im ready to trade for a deisel, they have no plugs.
The truck has pinged from day one, now it just doesnt run right.

There you go, replace one problem with a bigger one.
What plugs did you put in it? If you put bosch anything in, replace them.
But it will do the following;
1. Cost you 2+ times more to service
2. Fail. Like most do. Usually due to an egr cooler, head gasket, or turbo. All of which will drain your pocketbook more that this problem you are having.

I'm frustrated with this truck, it has been a love/hate relationship since I purchased it. I was in the market for a 7.3 when my friend gave me a deal on this truck and it has never quite made my feel comfortable. The 6.0 has had more good units then bad so I would feel comfortable with a 05 or newer.
I tow a 10000lb trailer at least twice monthly and would use it more if I was comfortable with my TV.
My BIL is a deisel mechanic by trade so repairs are about a wash.
Now it will go to my other mechanic who just recently spent several days doing diagnoistic check up with a laptop pluged into tje OBD port, driving around town. he just did the same on a friends identical truck.
