Great link on the regreasing Caprang. I might do it just for the fun of it.
Sparkinak, My dad taught me to drive and he told me to never turn the steering wheel while sitting still. I'm almost 40 and still don't do it. I think this is a sure fire fix for your power steering problem!
If it weren't for the metal bands that hold the boot on, I'd probably do it too (but not for fun...). Although, I should probably try to find a tool that puts those things on, since I have two 4X4 ATVs with four of them (one on each wheel) that will eventually need to be fixed.
Sparkinak, I have no problems with the PS. I think ruschejj is right...but if it's hard to turn when moving, then probably sumthin not rite...
It worked on my old F250. I'm going to do it when my 08 gets back from the dealer from getting the radiator replaced.
As far a sthe metal bands go, just cut them off and use ty-wraps. You should be under there anyway every so often checking things out. If one of the tywraps is gone just replace it. It's just there to keep dirt out of the splines, it doesn't hold in any grease like a CV joint, etc...
Well, i finally got the truck to the dealer. First time I called they said they would need it for 3-4 days before the diesel tech could even look at it. Second time they said it was driveline, so the "drivline" specialist could look at it the next day. I dropped it off Wednesday afternoon, and at 9:00 am on Thursday, they called and said nothing was wrong. I had mentioned the slip joint, and the advisor said they took it apart and it had plenty of grease. So...I guess I either find another dealer, or wait till the U-joints break....
In the last 500 miles I have started to feel something similar. If I come to a stop all seems fine. When I let off the brake it feels like I got bumped by something. I dont have to hit the gas pedal to make it do it, just let off the brake.
I had to cross a 4 lane road with heavy traffic so due to the slow take off of these trucks I double footed the pedals to build a little boost so I could pull out without the delay. I thought the driveshaft was going to fall out when I let off the brake. I think I have the same "issue" as you but we are describing it a bit differently or its acting slightly different because mine does it as soon as you let off the brake rather than once you hit the gas pedal.
Feels exactly like a 97 F150 I had. Dealer put a new yoke on the driveshaft and it never returned.
caprang,
I think it is the same issue. I occasionally get it by just letting off the brakes, and I thought it was just the brakes letting loose, but now I don't think so. It's also very hard to pass the "milk duds" test during a stop. (When I took drivers ed in high school, the teacher put an empty milk duds box on the dash. If the box fell over when you stopped, you failed...).
