Does anyone know how to take the side rail covers off of the top of the bed rails? I have a 6’5” bed and factory bed liner, and have just bought a bakflip HD to cover the bed, the 6’5” bed has holes in the front bed sides from the factory and I would like to run the drain hoses out of them instead of the plugs in the bottom of the bed, but I need to drill a hole for the hoses in the liner and looks like the easiest way is to remove the rail covers so I can move the bed liner away from the sides to drill the holes. Sorry to be long winded but you guys have answered every question so far so when in need ask the best, you guys!
I haven't seen anyone with an 09 try to remove those yet, but I think 04-08 owners said they are held in with clips and can be pulled off.
But I don't think you would need to take them off. I think you could loosen the bolts that hold the bedliner in (at those tie-down points), and then you can move liner to the side and be able to drill a hole into those stake holes.
Or just simply run the drain tubes behind the liner like I did and Bakflip's instructions say to.
Thanks for the replies, I'm going to take the bolts from the tie downs out and see if I can move the liner out far enough not to damage the paint on the bed. I have the 6'5" bed and it has holes in the front stake pockets at what looks like just the right height to run the drain hoses, we get so much damn rain here it seem I want to try and keep the bed itself as dry as possible to keep it from trapping moisture and causing problems down the road, I tend to keep my trucks for a long time so want to prevent any future problems, it may not make a difference but just for my piece of mind. Also a thanks to Steve for getting me a good price on the bakflip from his source, thanks again Steve!
