what is the value ?

buddy has an 1986 f-350 with a remanned 6.9 w/ banks turbo and a rebuilt c-6 auto. i was going to use it for commercial snow plowing this winter. he wants about $ 2000.00 for it.

truck is ROUGH. its not the family truckster aside from that, a couple of mechanical issues.

1. small diesel or oil leak on drivers side valve cover gasket.
2. loose pulley on PS pump.
3. inner axle seal leak on passenger side, front axle. front axle is somewhat smaller than rear axle (?)
4. no brake, turn signals, anything but headlamps.
5.) truck will start Ok, then die and needs cranking for 10 seconds to start and stay running. possibly leaking down of fuel pressure from inj pump. i believe it has a mech fuel pump, would a 7-10 lb elec boost pump between the tank and mech pump solve this ? or replace the mech pump ?

any advice welcome. BTW i'm a regular in the 7.3 forum.

1)Could be a leaking return line...which could also lead to #5.
2)??
3)??
4)No brakes as in a leaking brake hose/line?
5)Probably air intrusion. either from the water in fuel separator or the return lines (rubber hoses connecting each injector)

I'd try to get the price down after hearing your #4...that and how the economy is for these trucks are down (at least they are here). I'm going to sunrise tomorrow to deal for a '89 f350 to ****** the 4x4 parts off it. They're asking 2k, but it has no brakes, use either to start, and an open rear diesel tank...and its been sitting there for 4+ years. truck

Good luck!

If it's a 4x4 it's valuable for the frontend.............. IF it's still the Dana 60!

Depending on your area the frontend alone is worth 800-1500 bucks.

I agree though; it has problems, it's old and the economy is down. ALL GOOD points for a reduced price.

Thats to much. You can get decent, rust free, west coast trucks of the same vintage for the same money.

1. Rocker cover gaskets are not hard to replace or expensive.
2. The power steering pulley is installed with a special tool, interference fit keeps it in place.
So it may take a new pulley and power steering pump to fix that.
3. It should have a Dana 60 front axle, seals are not that hard to change, just takes a bit of time.
4. Wiring problems can be a bear to track down.
For the rear lights, look at the wiring connector at the rear of the frame drivers side.
Four wire connector, left turn/brake light, right turn/brake light, park lights and reverse lights.
Also a ground from the frame in that area goes up to the bed wiring.
Front lights is probably a ground problem fro side marker, park and turn signals, they are all mounted in plastic housings.
5. Return lines and O rings need replaced, they are hard and letting air in which lets the fuel drain back to the tank.
So the engine fires and runs till the IP housing is empty, then the engine stalls until the lift pump gets fuel back to the IP again.

2000 dollars sounds high unless it has a plow mounted that comes with it.

Thats probably a little high, I bought a truck that fits that description almost perfectly, except the lights worked and the transmission had a terrible leak(he claimed it needed a seal, it turned out to be cracked). I paid $1000 for the truck, $200 for a used tranny and $500 to have the tranny rebuilt and installed. it is 86 F350 4x4. The body is in real good shape, a few small dents here and there.
