Gauges gone wild

Gauges gone wild
I have a 97 F150 4x4 Lariat. When I first start it the gauges read normally. Then after a while the gauges go nuts. The battery gauge maxes out, the oil pressure goes low, the temp maxes and the fuel gauge will either max or go to empty. If I shut the truck off and restart the gauges will read normally again for a few seconds/minutes. Any ideas?

A number of different things could be causing that, one of them is the battery itself. I would have it checked to make sure it's not shorting out.
