I have a 97 F150 4x4 Lariat. When I first start it the gauges read normally. Then after a while the gauges go nuts. The battery gauge maxes out, the oil pressure goes low, the temp maxes and the fuel gauge will either max or go to empty. If I shut the truck off and restart the gauges will read normally again for a few seconds/minutes. Any ideas?
A number of different things could be causing that, one of them is the battery itself. I would have it checked to make sure it's not shorting out. Welcome to the board.I wonder if the battery is spiking,is it an old battery? They can test it at Autozone for you, however I did have a 5 yr old battery test good and it was bad.
I changed the battery just to see. It didn't help. I found out that all of the gauge cluster is grounded by one wire. I think I will check that ground wire, and see if that helps. Any other ideas?
