Overall length with trailer hitch?

I'm about to buy a 2009 F-150 Super Crew. It's going to be a tight fit in my garage and I want to make sure that it will fit in ok with a trailer hitch attached.

The Ford website says that the overall lengths are:

231.7" for the 5.5' bed
243.7" for the 6' bed.

I'm assuming that these lengths don't include a trailer hitch? How many inches would a trailer hitch add to the overall length of the vehicle?

I would say it would add about 6-9 inches depending on what kind of hitch you have.

Zero, surely you will remove the ball mount when not towing.

I leave my ball on all the time. #1 being a short person, it's a step #2 it's one hell of a protector to the rear, people just don't want park so close. #3 My truck is never in a garage maybe a barn. Chris

ditto on leaving the ball on all the time. I once had someone rear-end me while i was in my ranger ( had the ball on) the ball went through this guys radiator and basically wrapped the 80's style toyota truck around the hitch, totalling it.....my ranger, didnt even have a scratch.

i would say that the ball on my 09 150 sticks out about 7" from the bumper

Thanks everyone. Looks like the long bed S-crew will barely fit in my garage without the hitch, but won't fit with it. Now I have to choose between settling for a short bed or taking the hitch on and off all the time. Decisions, decisions...

Best way to get your truck keyed, is to leave the ball mount in the the hitch. I've been told a zillion times, that when the unsuspecting person cracks their shin or dings their bumper on a ball mount that they will key your car. My dealers tend to confirm that, they see lots of key damage on the trucks with ball mounts always attached. It has been the subject of discussion during many sales calls over the years. I think that if you really value your truck, you would do like I've always done, and park it far away from the rest of the herd.

Hitchman you could be right about this. I was in body shop the other day and this guy pulled in with his suv and every panel had been keyed. The thing was he caught the guy who did it and the reason was because he drove into his hitch ball and cracked his front bumber. The scratch around his SUV was a nasty one as well. I have always parked my stuff away from everyone else but what annoys me is sometimes i will return to the truck and the carpark will be 20% full and then someone decides they will park as close to my truck as they can get and try and squezze out of the door. What one earth they do this for i will never know.

Not something I wanted confirmation on, as I'd probably be in jail if I caught someone keying my truck because of their inability to walk or drive. I always tell my wife and son, If you cannot afford to loose it, or will be distraught about the damage. Never park where others do or tell people what you have. To many looking for a way to beat you out of your stuff without paying for it.

I really hoped that I would get blasted by people saying that the "key" thing would never happen. My experience tells me that it is very common.

It doesn't take anything for people to key stuff today. Not enough parents beating their kids when they do dumb stuff so they grow up and do dumber stuff since the cops can't do anything either. Co-worker got an Escape about 4 months ago and she has key marks up and down it. She has been in and out of court with her neighbor about the dozen or so dogs they have barking at all hours. Also doesn't help that she is not the most pleasant person to deal with so her vehicle was an easy target.

Had my tailgate stolen and went to ask the Fiesta(grocery store chain in Houston) if I could see the footage from their camera so I could see who took my tailgate they shrugged and said the cameras aren't even real. Didn't even bother with a theft report. Was also the last truck I had that didn't have a gate lock.

I always park in the last row (at least one side of the car/truck can't get a door ding that way) and sure enough when I come out 90% of the time someone is parked right next to me! I have a 68 mustang from college and I used to think people parked next to it because they were looking at it or because they knew I wouldn't damage their car if it was parked next to it, but with my truck usually when I come out the car parked next to it looks like it just came back from Iraq so that blows my theory out the window!
